Umm al Samim, Oman

Umm al Samim is a salt flat in western Oman. As the regional closed basin for the eastern edge of Rub' al Khali, the brackish lowland is seasonally flooded creating a salt crust upon evaporation. This crust is commonly weak when stepped on and can break through into the unsafe depths below.
